Chair for the History and Theory of Architecture

The Gobelin Room in the Wildt'sche Haus, Basel, 1762-64. Architect: Johann Jakob Fechter, photograph by Noelle Paulson
Within the time span c. 1450-1900, the Chair is interested in the long history of particular architectural problems and their correlations with other disciplines and practices. These include architecture’s mediality and its position with regard to the visual arts or the importance of its representations in other media, such as prints or periodicals. Another aspect of this is architecture’s relationship to language and the transfer of concepts and ideas this connection enables.
