Curriculum vitae

Benoit Seguin has recently joined the Chair of the History and Theory of Architecture (Prof. Dr. Maarten Delbeke) as Resarch Assistant. His main interest is applying modern computational methods to large corpora in order to enhance more traditional research.

Originally trained in Maths and Physics, he first studied at École Polytechnique (X08) to get his Diplôme d'Ingénieur, before getting a MSc in Computer Science at EPFL. After working in Computer Vision for robotics, biomedical and chip-manufacturing applications, it was during his doctorate work at the DHLAB of EPFL that he first entered the Digital Humanities world. During these years, he formalized operationalizable approaches to the processing of large Art Historical photo archives, and created a platform which allowed to process and ingest 340'000 digitized images coming from the Foundazione Giorgio Cini. Powered by state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, this brought for the first time the ability for Art Historians to search visually in their image collections.

At the chair, Benoit is helping investigate what computational methods on a large collection of architectural treatises can bring. He also is giving the new course "Digital Methods for Architecture History".
