Berthold Hub’s main research focus lies on the architectural history and theory of the early Italian Renaissance. Further research interests include the relationship between visual theory and image theory from antiquity to modern times, the intellectual background of 16th-century visual art, architecture and sculpture of baroque Spain, as well as the impact of the Italian Renaissance and Leon Battista Alberti on the evolution of architecture and architectural theory during the decade before World War I.
